Save Warrender Park Road Post Office

The popular post office at Warrender Park Road has been chosen to close. Unless local people fight back it will be one of the 2500 post offices to be closed across Britain as part of the latest batch of closures ordered by this Labour government. There is now a consultation period and we have just six weeks to save it. If this closure goes through there will be no other post office in Marchmont. The other one - at the top of Marchmont Road - was closed in 2004 in the last round of closures.

Warrender Park Road post office is well used - it is even open until 7:30pm each Saturday! This is the sort of local business that should be supported - not shut down. Experience from elsewhere shows that branches can be saved if local people stand up for their post office.

Royal Mail accept in their Branch Access Report that there is "Hilly terrain" between Marchmont and the proposed alternative branch at Tollcross. Tollcross closes at 12:30pm on Saturdays and is open for only 46 hours each week rather than the 53 hours that Warrender Park Road opens for.

• How would closure affect you (and others you know) in the local community?

• What are the practical problems which you would experience if you had to go to another post office?

• Is it reasonable to expect people with limited mobility to get to other post offices?
