Mackintosh backs South Sub Electrification

10.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 6th Jul 2009

Local Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Fred Mackintosh has called on Network Rail to electrify the Edinburgh Suburban Lines - including the South Suburban Railway.

In a response to a Network Rail consultation Fred Mackintosh wrote, "I strongly support the electrification of the Edinburgh South Suburban Railway. Electrification would benefit freight and diversionary traffic, but would also make it easier to bring back passenger services to the ESSR as more and more of Scotland's rail network is electrified."
