Today's mega poll of over 33,000 voters across the 238 top marginal constituencies in Britain has confirmed local challenger Fred Mackintosh a the only candidate who can defeat Labour's Nigel Griffiths in Edinburgh South. The poll predicts that Edinburgh South would be gained by the Liberal Democrats if there was a general election tomorrow.
"This massive opinion poll has confirmed that the race here is a clear choice between Labour and the Liberal Democrats" said Fred Mackintosh "I have been talking to voters across the constituency and people feel deeply let down by Labour. With just 405 votes separating the two parties the way to get change is clear."
At the General Election on 5 May 2005 Labour polled 14,188 votes, Liberal Democrats 13,783, Conservatives 10,291, SNP 2,635 and Green 1,387. The boundary of the Westminster Constituency has not changed since then. Across the same area in the constituency ballot of the last Scottish Parliament Election the votes split: Liberal Democrats 30.2% Labour 26.6%. Conservatives 20.4% SNP 18.7%.
